Chad Littlefield’s Family Defends Fatal Gun Range Outing

Chad Littlefield’s Family Defends Fatal Gun Range Outing.

Sad that when someone tries to do good something bad happens. We can all learn something from this.  On Friday, in Midlothian, Texas the relatives of the man killed alongside a former Navy SEAL sniper at a Texas shooting range said that he was trying to help his friend who was a troubled war veteran and the outing was for “therapeutic purposes.” Hundreds turned out for Chad Littlefield’s service who was fatally shot alongside his friend American Sniper author Chris Kyle. The Authorities have confirmed that the man the two men were trying to help suffered from post traumatic stress disorder. Littlefield’s father-in-law defends the idea of helping veterans through target practice as his son-in-law would assist Kyle in his efforts to help veterans. Police say the suspect 25 year old Eddie Ray Routh shot both men multiple times before fleeing on Feb. 2 and even told his sister as well as brother-in-law he couldn’t trust the men so he had to kill them before they killed him. Routh is in jail on a $3 million bond. Besides the hundreds who turned out for the funeral, hundreds of people lined the street to watch the procession pass. Both men became friends a few years ago as soccer dads and their families vacationed together on occasion. A memorial for Kyle is set for Monday at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

Gun Control Bill With Bipartisan Support Unveiled In House

Gun Control Bill With Bipartisan Support Unveiled In House.

All I have to say it is about time for both parties to work together even though I am sure not all members agree. On Tuesday, lawmakers revealed their first bipartisan bill to make firearms trafficking a federal crime. During a press conference the bill’s sponsors- Reps. Patrick Meehan (R-Pa.), Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), Scott Rigell (R-Va.) and Elijah Cummings (D-Md.)- said that the measure would create one federal code giving law enforcement the ability to prosecute gun traffickers and impose up to 20 years in jail for those who buy guns for people who cannot buy them on their own. This recommendations is among the gun violence package give to the President last month. Scott Rigell, a sponsor of the bill, said “As a lifetime member of the NRA, as a firearm owner, as a father … I’ve got a problem with people who break the law using firearms because it inevitably puts pressure on my rights…When we punish the bad guys, we’re protecting the good guys. That’s really the essence of the bill.” Another bill sponsor, Patrick Meehan, said he’s “glad to be able to reach across the aisle and work toward common sense solutions” like their gun trafficking bill, which he noted has a companion bill in the Senate. For some like Cummings the issue is personal since losing his nephew to gun violence a year and a half ago. The man obstacle to this bipartisan partnership is whether the bill will make it to a vote. There is support from both sides but it all depends on whether or not House Republican leaders will allow it through. The Senate, however, will be the first to vote on the bill and will have to pass. Hill aids and gun policy advocates expect something to pass in the senate but are unsure about whether this will happen or not. The goal is to get as many single measures passed toward a solution to the gun violence issue, but combining them with other measures may hurt their chance of being passed according to the bill sponsors. The NRA has not officially taken a position on the new bill yet but hopes to work with Congress as it passed through the legislative process.

Gun Show Shootings: At Least 5 Hurt In Accidental Incidents In Ohio, Indiana, North Carolina

Gun Show Shootings: At Least 5 Hurt In Accidental Incidents In Ohio, Indiana, North Carolina.

This cannot be good for the NRA or for pro-second amendment people right now. But I do have to ask the question: What is going on with all these shooting? Maybe gun manufactures and private interest groups like the NRA really need to re-examine gun control and more importantly safety. Gun shows in North Caroline, Indiana and Ohio left 5 people injured Saturday coincidentally that same day thousands of gun advocates peacefully gathers at U.S. state capitals to rally against stricter gun laws. At the Dixie Gun and Knife Show in Raleigh, NC, three people were injured when a 12 gauge shotgun discharged while the owner was unzipping the case. The two day gun show shut down, but was scheduled to reopen on Sunday. In Indianapolis, Indiana, a 54 year old man accidentally shot himself while leaving a gun show at the state fairgrounds where loaded personal weapons are not allowed inside the show. In Ohio, a gun dealer in Medina bought a semi-automatic handgun on Saturday and accidentally shot his friend when showing him the gun which had the magazine removed but one round was left in the chamber. The gun rallies held around the country coincide with the President’s federal gun control proposal unveiled last Wednesday in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting.

I do give this man credit for being so ballsy and standing up for what he believes. I don’t know if that’s the reason he did it or he was afraid his guns would be taken away with Obama’s new gun proposal announced this last Wednesday. On that same Wednesday, a woman shopping at J.C. Penny in Riverdale saw a man carrying a rifle slung across his chest, extra ammunition and a sidearm in holster on his right hip, so she did what anyone would do take a picture. The Utah man’s reason was to demonstrate guns in law abiding citizens hands can be safe. The man identified as Joseph Kelley is a firm believer obviously in the second amendment. Besides Kelley, other pro-amendment demonstrations have been going on in the wake of the Obama’s gun control proposal in response to the Sandy Hook shooting. In Oregon two men walked down the main street in Portland carrying assault rifles explaining that they are exercising their Second Amendment right and hope to educate the people on gun rights. What these people are failing to realize is that the way guns were used and obtained in each shooting whether school, mall, etc. was not legal in any way, so to protect the public stricter rules must be implemented. If you have no criminal past or any kind of mental instability in your past, then you can still buy guns. I don’t really understand why they feel all of our rights to own guns is being violated. Plus they are operating on a principal that is over 200 years old that doesn’t mean the same thing it did 200 years ago when it was being written.

San Francisco Gun Show Draws Huge Crowds Fearful Of Looming Gun Control Measures

San Francisco Gun Show Draws Huge Crowds Fearful Of Looming Gun Control Measures.

Daly City, south of San Francisco, saw a record number of gun enthusiast at the Cow Palace gun show this weekend because of concerns over stricter gun laws being put into place making it harder to get them. No one could walk away with a gun, but still an estimated 10,000 people packed the place on Saturday for the annual Crossroads of the West gun show. The increase interest in buying guns comes after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that claimed 26 lives and has increased dramatically around the nation.

California has some of the strictest gun laws in the United states requiring background checks, licensing of gun dealers, 10-day waiting periods, required written tests for all gun owners, recording of all firearm sales, handgun micro-stamping and a limiting each individual to one handgun purchase per month. Since the Sandy Hook shooting, gun shows have been increasingly criticized by locals and some towns are trying to block these gun shows form operating in their town.

Gun Control Legislation Must Not Include More Cops In Schools: ACLU Letter To Biden

Gun Control Legislation Must Not Include More Cops In Schools: ACLU Letter To Biden.

Democracy Now report the White House is considering providing $50 million in taxpayer money or federal funding to put hundreds of police officers and surveillance equipment in public schools. This and other avenues are being considered that could draw support from both parties since an assault weapons ban is most likely off the table.

The ACLU urges in a press release that the White House and Vice President Biden look elsewhere since in their opinion cops in schools would not make them safer just more oppressive. “As a mother, I’m especially attuned to the need to protect children from gun violence, but over-policing is not the solution,” Laura Murphy, Director of ACLU’s Washington Legislative Office, said in the release. “When police are put in schools, learning environments can be transformed into sites of law enforcement. The results can be devastating, particularly for students of color and those with disabilities, who we know are disproportionately pushed out of public schools and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems.”

The letter cites statistics from New York City where, according to the letter, schools with permanent metal detectors reported that 77 percent of incidents involving cops during the 2004-2005 school year were classified as “non-criminal.” Only 4 percent were classified as “major crimes against persons” and just 2 percent were classified as “major property crimes.”

I agree and disagree with the ACLU. I believe the police are not going to be effective but my opinion differs there. This oppressive environment the ACLU speaks of is ridiculous because I went to a school that had police and the kids actually felt safer. I think it is a false sense of security that worries me because a shooter like in all these cases carefully planned what it is they are going to do whether their is security or not. It should not have to get to the point that security is what Obama thinks is going to prevent this because with planning as in all these cases you can get around that. The $50 million the country doesn’t have should be save for less frivolous endeavors and not waste the taxpayer’s money. The focus should be more on plans to counteract these crimes, preparing schools for these attacks, and cracking down whether the NRA or special interest groups including Congress like it on guns and the process to buy a gun.

Journalists’ Addresses Posted In Revenge For Newspaper’s Google Map Of Gun Permit Owners | TechCrunch.

Wow I know everyone is still raw after the numerous shooting sprees across the country especial the Newtown massacre but this may be taking it too far. Reportedly after a reporter published addresses of known gun permit holders in New York, one of these owners published where the report and staff lived and posted a Google map of it. What happened to privacy people? I will say it again there is a larger issue besides guns going on here guns are not the only thing to blame. Now various groups are debating whether gun permit holders should be required to tell their neighbors like a sexual predator would that they live in the neighborhood. WE ARE FOCUSING ON THE WRONG THING!
